Move your books at a date you choose, with the opening figures proved against the file you brought rather than typed in and hoped for. Below: how the move works, what to export from the system you are on, and an honest comparison — including what we do not do yet.

How the move works

  1. Step 1

Bring the trial balance, and see it proved

Export the trial balance at your changeover date as CSV. We read the account name or code and either the debit and credit columns or one signed balance, propose a mapping onto the Irish chart, and post the opening entries. Nothing is written until the mapping is yours, and the import is reconciled to the cent against your own file — a difference is shown, never absorbed.

  2. Step 2

    Contacts, with their details

Customers and suppliers from the same export: name, address, VAT number, terms and the bank details a payment file needs. The rows that could not be read are listed with their line numbers rather than dropped silently.

  3. Step 3

    Open items and the bank

The unpaid sales and purchase invoices at the changeover date come in as brought-forward items, and their total has to agree with the debtors and creditors control accounts in the trial balance. The bank opening balance is checked against your statements in the days around the date, so the first reconciliation starts from a figure somebody has proved.

  4. Step 4

    What Revenue already has

A Form 11 you filed through Revenue Online Service can be read in beside the working paper, so the year you are moving from is compared rather than retyped. Filed figures never overwrite computed ones.

What to export, by system

Sage 50
Nominal activity or trial balance as CSV; aged debtors and creditors for the open items; customer and supplier lists. The item types (SI, SC, PI, PC) are understood, and credits are taken as credits.
Sage Accounting
Trial balance export, aged debtors and creditors with the reference and outstanding columns, and the contact lists.
Xero
Trial balance, the aged receivables and payables detail reports, and contacts. Invoice number and amount due are read from those reports' own column names.
QuickBooks Online
Trial balance, open invoices and unpaid bills, and the customer and supplier lists. An unnamed first column is read as the account column, as those reports export it.
Big Red Cloud, Relate, a spreadsheet
Any CSV with an account name or code and amounts. Choose “Another system or a spreadsheet” and the common column names are tried; what cannot be read is listed line by line.

Where we go further

Each row names the products whose own pages were read, and the date they were read. Nothing here is claimed for a capability that is not finished and tested in our own record.
